Resilience and Hunting the Good Stuff
What is resilience? We all use the word, but what does it really mean to be resilient? Before you learn the skills research tells us foster resilience you will learn a skill that buffers resilience. Hunting the good stuff makes you less susceptible to adversity. You will learn why we are deficit oriented and how to help yourself focus on the good.
How our Thoughts Impact our Resilience
To become more resilient we have to understand how our thoughts impact our feelings and behavior. Contrary to what most people believe our emotions and behavior are not triggered by events, they are triggered by our interpretation of events. You will learn how your thoughts impact your feelings and subsequent reactions and how to think more flexibly to become more resilient.
Errors in Thoughts
To become more resilient we have to understand how our thoughts impact our feeling and behavior and how our thoughts impact our feelings and behavior and how certain types of thoughts make us less resilient. Cognitive distortions - habitual, inaccurate, negative thoughts make us less resilient. You will learn what cognitive distortions are and how to challenge them in order to be more resilient.
Perspective Taking
Our thoughts are critical to our resilience. In order to hear what we are saying to ourselves and challenge counterproductive thoughts we need to have some distance from our thoughts. You will learn tools that will enable you to think more flexibly and skills that will help you distance yourself from your thoughts.
Optimism
People who are resilient ten to be more optimistic. Optimists think realistically, believe good things will happen to them and know how to make them happen. You will learn what optimism is, what explanatory style is and how to become a more optimistic thinker.

Practicing Savoring And Gratitude
Most of us are aware of the importance of attending to and appreciating the good in our lives. Research shows that practicing savoring and gratitude considerably increases personal well-being. We will discuss the latest studies on savoring and gratitude, and you will learn tools that will enable you to express more gratitude and increase savoring.
Others Matter
Research tells us that social support is key to well-being. We tend to have an easy time empathizing with and encouraging others during bad times. But fostering relationships during good times is just as important. You will learn tools that will enable you to enhance your social support by responding effectively when good things happen to others.
